Iceye Secures Greek Government Contract For Sovereign SAR Satellites

Iceye, a leading provider of commercial synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) satellite imagery, has announced that it has signed a contract with the Greek government to develop and launch sovereign SAR satellites.

The agreement marks a significant milestone for Iceye and Greece, as it will establish the country's first-ever sovereign satellite constellation for Earth observation. The new satellites will provide Greece with independent access to high-resolution SAR imagery, enabling the government to monitor its territory for a variety of purposes, including disaster response, environmental protection, and national security.

“We are excited to partner with Iceye on this critical project, which will enhance Greece’s capabilities in disaster management and national security. The SAR satellites developed by Iceye will provide us with unprecedented insights, enabling faster response times and more effective management of natural disasters such as floods. This collaboration demonstrates our commitment to leveraging cutting-edge space technologies for the safety and well-being of our citizens,” Dimitris Papastergiou, Greece’s Minister of Digital Governance, said in a statement

The new SAR satellites will be built and launched by Iceye, and they will be integrated into the company's existing constellation. This will provide Greece with access to a large volume of SAR data, as well as the ability to request custom imagery tailored to specific needs.

The contract with the Greek government is a testament to Iceye's position as a global leader in commercial SAR satellite imagery. The company's technology has been used for a wide range of applications, including disaster response, maritime surveillance, and agriculture.
