ESA & UK Space Agency Team Up: New Funding Boosts Earth Observation Innovation

The European Space Agency (ESA) and the UK Space Agency (UKSA) have joined forces to announce a new funding opportunity for UK-based businesses. The initiative, titled "InCubed2: Innovation in Public Services with Satellite Earth Observation," aims to accelerate the development of commercially viable projects that leverage Earth observation data.

InCubed2 builds upon the success of the previous "InCubed" program. This new iteration focuses on supporting UK entities working on innovative solutions that utilize satellite-derived data to benefit public services. Examples could include monitoring environmental changes, improving disaster response efforts, or optimizing resource management for infrastructure projects.

"We are thrilled to partner with the UK Space Agency on this exciting program," said [ESA official's name], head of ESA's Φ-lab Invest Office. "InCubed2 presents a fantastic opportunity to harness the power of Earth observation data to make a real difference in the lives of citizens across the UK."

The funding call is open to all UK-based businesses and research institutions. Proposals must demonstrate a clear commercial viability and a strong connection to a specific public sector need. The deadline for submissions is September 12th, 2024.

The UK Space Agency shares ESA's enthusiasm for the program. "InCubed2 aligns perfectly with our National Space Strategy's goals of fostering innovation and developing space-enabled solutions that benefit society," said [UK Space Agency official's name]. "We encourage all eligible UK entities with groundbreaking ideas to apply for this funding."

Beyond financial support, InCubed2 will provide successful applicants with access to ESA's expertise and resources. This includes mentorship from industry professionals, technical assistance, and opportunities to connect with potential investors.

InCubed2 is a significant step forward in unlocking the potential of Earth observation data for public good. By supporting innovative UK businesses, the program promises to deliver practical solutions that address real-world challenges and ultimately improve the lives of people around the world.
