Orbith Orders small Astranis GEO Broadband Satellite For Argentina

Remote connectivity provider Orbith is charting a course for expanded service in Argentina. The company has signed a deal with Californian satellite manufacturer Astranis to purchase a small geostationary (GEO) broadband satellite, aiming to bridge the connectivity gap in the South American nation.

This announcement comes amidst growing demand for reliable internet access across Latin America. Orbith currently leases capacity from existing satellite operators, but limitations in availability and pricing have hampered their growth in countries like Argentina.

"Having a satellite specifically tailored to our needs, and to the demand that we see from our customers in the country, is a massive competitive advantage that will help us expand our coverage across the country," said Pablo Mosiul, CEO of Orbith.

Astranis' solution fills this gap with its innovative line of small GEO satellites. These washing-machine-sized spacecraft offer a cost-effective alternative to traditional, hulking GEO satellites. While boasting a shorter lifespan (around eight years compared to 15+), their lower price point and faster deployment schedule make them ideal for regional coverage needs.

"Our satellites are designed to provide high-performance broadband access to underserved regions," said John Campana, Chief Revenue Officer at Astranis. "This partnership with Orbith perfectly aligns with our mission of bridging the digital divide."

The Astranis satellite, slated for launch in 2025, will offer Orbith dedicated bandwidth specifically tailored to Argentina's geographical and customer needs. This dedicated capacity will allow Orbith to provide cost-effective and reliable broadband internet access to remote and underserved areas, potentially connecting businesses, educational institutions, and individual users who currently lack sufficient connectivity.

The Orbith-Astranis partnership signifies a promising development for internet access in Argentina and the broader Latin American region. By utilizing innovative small GEO satellite technology, Orbith is poised to bridge the digital divide and empower communities with the transformative power of reliable internet access.
